Proper target recovery
Proper Target recovery is one of the most important issues facing our hobby. Do you think that is an overstated statement? Many would think so but after being in touch with many of our city parks departments here in Ohio I can tell you that it is.
When I first moved to Lancaster I quickly discovered my local parks did not allow metal detecting and after a few calls I quickly understood why. Just like so many other parks I had asked this question to before I got that same old haunting anwser " we were tired of finding people leaving big holes after recovering the coins."
We have enough to worry about in this hobby that this should not be an issue. Personally, I believe most of these parks were shut down from the guys in the 80's and 90's who didnt have as much acess to other hunters and so much information to be found on the internet but there are still problems. If you run across someone not using proper recovery techniques please take the time to show them how to properly do it, we all started from somewhere and I can tell you when i first started not all my holes were the best but most of my hunting was done on mine and family members property.
If you are new to the hobby or just need to brush up on your skills, both of the following links have some great information on proper recovery techniques.
