CLUB NAME

Postby JTewell » 06 Mar 2010, 17:06

Maybe this would be a good time to just throw around some club name suggestions. I think the right name...a cool name enhances the desire for membership and it can represent the group well in the community. Perhaps those interested in joining the club than suggest some names here and it will be easier to to discuss at the next meeting if we have thought about some of the suggestions beforehand.

What do you think? Off the top of my head I will throw out a couple.

Central Ohio Detectorists
Central Ohio Detectorist's Society
Buckeye Treasure Hunters
(Although I have found trouble getting permission to hunt when the word "treasure" comes up. People think you know about something on their property hat they don't. It can also suggest digging large holes, and maybe make officials nervous. Great name for the web site though.)

What would you all suggest? JT

I would have no problem it being called buckeye treasure huntes but I agree, not a good because having the word treasure in it. matter of fact I have thought about spendng the money to change the buckeyetreasurehunter name to something else without treasure in it but I guess its ok for a website, just wouldnt recommend it for a club. Just my opinion

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'

I am wondering why we have not been getting any name suggestions. I think we were pretty much pumped up after the meeting. Hopefully some others will have some good suggestions we can think about before the next meeting. I think the name should be simple, not too long, and something we can be proud of. So far I like "The Central Ohio Detectors Society." There could also be "Central Ohio Detect & Recovery Team"
Central Ohio Treasure Hunters, Central Ohio Historical Recovery Unit, Central Ohio Metal Detector Fanatics. (Sorry.....thinking too hard on that one.) Central Ohio Metal Detecting Club. I give up.....what would you all suggest? JT

It's hard to come up with good names so expect participation to be limited. You have a couple of basic options. You can go with a formal name or you can go with a fun/creative name. "Dayton Diggers" is a good example of the latter whereas "Columbus Ohio Detectorists Society" is a good example of the former. I persoanally don't like the stuffy formal names but they are easy to come up with. Coming up with something truly unique takes talent which most of us don't have (myself included).

I'll throw a few other ideas out there to get the creative juices flowing:

Columbus Metal Hunters = CMH which is also the local airport code
Columbus Metal Maniacs
Columbus Metal Detectives
Central Ohio Search and Seizure
Central Ohio Sweepers
Columbus Coil and Soil
Columbus Soil Brothers
Columbus Dirt Breakers
Central Ohio Pluggers and Diggers
Columbus Discoverers = Like Christopher Columbus (there is a local school with this name though)
Discoverers of Columbus - I think I like this one best.
Central Ohio Discoverers

Phew... that's enough for one day. I've got to get back to work!

Actually, the more I think about it the more I like the idea of using the word "Discoverers". That's what we really are. We discover things. It has a positive connotation and can include things like prospecting, privy digging, archeology, artifact hunting, and many other interests that the club may want to discuss beyond basic metal detecting. The fact that Columbus itself is named after a famous discoverer is just icing on the cake.

"Dayton Discoverers" would have been a good name but "Dayton Diggers" is good too.
